Max Emulators explained.

What is going on here?

Max Emulators is a wiki-style site that delivers high quality emulators for a growing variety of past and modern computer systems & gaming consoles. Utilizing the Front and Moderator views, content editing of "scene", "system", and emulator data is in control by everyone.

"Wiki-style?" Members can edit the content of this site (text, graphics, URLs, labels, and emulator binaries). Membership is free. All edits are saved and a history option is available to return any version.

"Front View / Moderator View?"  The site features two levels: The Front view for public consumption and the Moderator view for content generation. The idea is to generate content in the protected moderation level and then publish it, in all its glory, to the public-access pages for the benefit of humanity. The site features front-facing pages for each supported computer or console (system). Click the switch view button in the right hand column to toggle levels.

"Pages?" The site is broken up into pages and reads like a magazine. Three emulators reside on each page. Nifty Ajax functionality allows updates and even editing without annoying page reloads. Each machine also has its own page with dynamic content and a sub level for emulator pages flavored by OS (Windows, Apple, and Linux).

"scene & system?" This site is not just about emulators - it also details those machines that opened up a world of discovery throughout the years. Clicking the scene tab displays the current emulator scene for a machine, clicking the system button invokes computer or console system information for that machine.

What else!  Public and Private user profiles are supported. Your editable profile returns an assortment of stats and also provides a curious ’moderator level’ item that increases when articles are added or edited or even when comments are posted. Confused? A Help button with customized content is available on each page. Think this site sucks? What can be done better or what is missing? Click the Suggest button to document your say. What is an emulator? If you have read this far and do not know what an emulator is then you are a brave soul indeed. Essentially, an emulator is a program that you can run on your PC or Mac that contains the electronic brains of a different machine in a software sense which transforms a part of your modern high tech computer into one of the old machines that you may have once held near and dear. Here is a handy link to Wikipedia for greater emulator education (new window): Emulator explained.
