Can the PS3 play PS2 games? by Chris November 5, 2008 Yes, no, sort of. If you were lucky enough to pick up one of the original Playstation 3 system during its launch then you have a system blessed with robust hardware emulation with the inclusion of the PS2 Emotion Engine chip. A wicked system. The chip was included in the original 40GB and 60GB systems. |

wale wrote on November 29, 2008 Points of correction: The systems that had the emotion engine AND the GSX are the NTSC 60gig and 20gig models. The systems that had the GSX only and thus needed software emulation were(are) the PAL 60 gig and NTSC 80gig systems Since then, all 40gig models have had BOTH the emotion engine and GSX removed and as a result DO NOT OFFER BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY AT ALL!!!!! as for the newer 160gig models, I don't know for sure, but I feel they will have GSX software emulation. All systems emulate PS1 through software emulation. |
