With over 200,000 downloads, this emulator is in its prime. The latest version is available for download below and can be decompressed with the 7z app.
ROMs are found on the newsgroups & you should own the original game before downloading a copy of its ROMs.
PCSX2 is four years in the making, is available in open source, and there is a Linux version.
As mentioned on pcsx2.net - emulating the PS2 is a grand task; much more complicated than emulating simpler machines. To attain a reasonable 30fps, you'll need the fastest system on the market.*
[mac osx intel dual core running bootcamp?]
A recent graphics adapter is also recommended. On a P4 with a Radeon 9800, I was able to receive a beautifully smooth 3 fps!
A dump of a Sony PS2 BIOS is required for this emulator. This BIOS is copyrighted so if you don't own a PS2, it is time to purchase one. If you do have a physical PS2 then please feel free to browse the resources on this page to help you locate the BIOS.
You can manually load the BIOS into the emulator form in Windows, if it is successful then you will see the PS1 then PS2 manufacturer logo and then onto PS2 Setup. It is nice to see this on a PC.
PS2 ROMs usually are packaged as .ISO files which can be burned onto DVD with Nero/burn image.
The emulator plays the games from DVD as your real life PS2 does. [will it play off of hard drive?]
This is an excellent emulator that allows for a variety of video settings and resolutions, full screen, and full joystick mapping. The Logitech sony-joystick knock-off is highly recommended to complete the experience. -MaxEm
