Playstation 2 emulation scene by: MaxEm September 21, 2007, 2:49 pm
The PS2 emulation scene is strong and active. With multi-core processors at home, the intricate architecture of the PS2 can be emulated to deliver a respectable 30fps.
The PCSX2 emulator is available for Windows and Linux and ROMs are posted on the Newsgroups/Usenet.
There are no PS2 emulators for the Mac, however, there is a PS1 emulator for OSX: PCSX with limited support.
A Playstation 2 BIOS dump is required for emulation to succeed. You can use the PS2 BIOS dump utility if you own a PS2 or you can find a bios floating around on the internet. PS2 BIOS or ROMs are not posted on this site.
Don't bother with this emulator if all you own is a Pentium 4 with a graphics adapter that is more than a year old. You'll need pixel shader 2.0 functionality and a speedy Intel or AMD to handle the reproduction of the PS2 emotion engine and graphics synth. -MaxEm

It's the PS2's graphics that are complex to emulate. Causes a lot of pain on my integrated graphics card, which relies on my processor to do the hard work.
