Genesis Plus v1.3.0
January 29, 2009by Chris
Genesis Plus v1.3.0 provides extremely accurate emulation for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis.
Using the original Genesis Plus source code, it was written for OS X by Richard Bannister and has been in development for over 6 years - with the latest release no more than a year ago, in September 2008.
The emulator uses the Mac Emulator Shell (also by Richard Bannister) and will function on OS X 10.4 or greater. A BIOS file is not required.
setup
1. download and execute the dmg
2. drag the emulator to your hd (ie applications folder)
3. procure a ROM file (legally, you must dump it from one of your physical genesis cartridges) (illegally, use google)
3.5 figure out keyboard mappings (see below)
4. double-click the ROM file and away you go
extra
5. use emulator enhancer for network play, USB support, fullscreen and more.
Aside - the "all your base belongs to us" meme that tore through the Internet in 2001-2 started with the European version of the Genesis/Megadrive game 'Zero Wing'.
You can see it in the first cut scene of the game and several other broken english phrases are included. So funny at the time, but now, not so much. Ah, but that is the life of the meme.
Genesis Plus will get you up and running Megadrive/Genesis games on your Mac in no time flat. The emulator is nearly flawless and gives you excellent value for the price (free). The emulator enhancer can be purchased to help the developer recap some of his time and effort into creating this fantastic work of art.
