Stella Atari 2600 Emulation for the Mac by Chris October 30, 2008 

Stella was created by Bradford W. Mott in late 1995. Written in C plus plus and named after the prototype version of the Atari 2600 Video Computer System, this robust emulator finely replicates genuine Atari 2600 gameplay.

Stella has been ported over to a variety of operating systems and is available in open source under the General Public License (GPL).

Options are available for joystick and mouse control as well as a variety of video rendering and audio settings. It even includes a debugger for those who venture into the challenging and honorable practice of coding for the Atari 2600.

This is a great emulator that carries you back into the Atari years. Unlike the wasteful practices of today with our multicore chips, obscene amounts of memory, and layers of interpreted languages, Stella and the Atari 2600 carry a pristine appreciation for the amazing things the coders could do with the limited means they had.
