CCS64: Near-perfect Commodore 64 emulation for Windows

January 19, 2009by Chris

imageCCS64 was created by Per Hakan Sundell for his Master Thesis in 1995.

The emulator supports keyboard, joystick, paddles, mouse, up to four 1541 disk-drives, the CSN cassette recorder, and a healthy variety of the cartridges. It runs in Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 beta (the current Windows version at the time of this writing). Direct X 9 is required. The 1541 and tape recorder are supported through software compatibility (ie the emulator will their file structures from your hard drive).

It will function on any Pentium processor or better with at least 16Mb and a VGA graphics adapter. It emulates the C64 hardware to an amazing degree and all software should function flawlessly.

The program is shareware and donations are appreciated by the developer, who put in many long hours to create and finely tune this excellent application.

The emulator comes with an installer and the Kaillera client for net-play. It is easily configured to work with modern input devices - it instantly recognized my Logitech Rumblepad 2 and allowed me to play Impossible Mission with the analogue joystick.

It has screen capture and even video capture functionality.

ROMs can be dropped right into the client for instant execution and can be freely acquired from www.c64.com

This emulator is a beautiful work of art. It allows you to easily experience the joy and wonder of 1980's technology in today's high systems with elegant presentation and compatibility.
