Linux on the Nintendo DS
January 13, 2009by Chris

DSLinux.org spearheads the project to get Linux on the DS.
Why put Linux on the DS? Why not. Not only is it a rewarding technical endeavor, Linux outfits your DS with web browsing abilities plus all the open functionality of an advanced operating system.
DSLinux supports the majority of hardware functions on the DS including the touchscreen, audio, wifi, and several storage devices. The mic is not yet supported.
To run Linux software on the DS, the source code must be compiled as a binary for DSLinux.
You can still run Nintendo DS games after updating the handheld with Linux (you're not going to destroy it).
For full functionality, DSLinux requires some extra RAM, visit this page at dslinux.org for the official recommendation.
