iPhone/touch Gameboy Advance

January 12, 2009by Chris

imageGameboy emulation exists as gpSPhone - a Gameboy Advance emulator created in 2007 by ZodTTD. It requires the Game Boy Advance bios, has limited audio support, and fairly adequate compatibility - subsequent releases have increased in quality.

gpSPhone is a port of Exophase's gpSP emulator - which is a Game Boy Advance emulator for the Sony PSP. (gpSP = game play Sony Playstation). It's not a GPS unit.

The most current version of gpSPhone uses transparent overlay for the buttons - allowing for a full-screen gaming experience in landscape mode.

gpSPhone setup
1. jailbreak your device, ensure that Installer.app is installed during the process.
2. acquire the BIOS with a search engine: gba_bios.bin
3. install gpSPhone with Installer.app/game category.
4. SSH the BIOS to /Applications/gpSPhone/
5. place Game Boy Advance ROMs (.gba) in /private/var/root/bin/Library/ROMs/GBA
6. run the app, select a ROM, enjoy.

notes
- functions on both the iPhone and the touch.
