iPhone/touch MAME emulator

January 11, 2009by Chris

iPhone/touch zero-day arcade enthusiasts rejoice, for the most-excellent MAME (multiple arcade machine) emulator has been ported, bringing our fav jailbroken handhelds over 2000 games of legacy goodness.

The first version was created by "Kaisersoze" in 2007 and featured fairly accurate game-play for Q*bert and Burgertime (and slower play for other games such as Galaga and Gyrus). The project was re-energized by non other than the great iWizard ZodTTD with the much improved mame4iphone in 2008.

For the best performance, mame4iphone employs an older version of MAME (v0.37 in fact, the current version of MAME is 0.129 -- mame 0.129 is a much newer than 0.37). Because it uses the older version of MAME, you'll need to find ROMs that are compatible with v0.37. Thankfully, there is a compatibility list available at ZodTTD.com.

Save states are supported but audio is disabled by default (enable in Goto Playing).
