Hello Mac PSX Emulator fans. Got some good news and some bad news for you. The good is that there are two Playstation emulators for OSX and the bad news is that they're a pain in the (_/_) to get working.
Max-Em tried for the last two hours to get the PCSX-test3 working on an Intel 13" Macbook. Was rewarded with persistent crashing when launching the mounted image or CD.
A Crash Bandicoot .mdf file was renamed to .iso and then mounted with OSX. PCSX-test 3 for Mac was then launched (with the BIOS in the proper place) and then a CTRL-R was done to launch the CD.
Crash.
Apparently, PCSX-test3 will only run with ISO's burned to CD but the dev website says that some people have had success with mounting the disk image with Roxio Toast. What's the difference? Max-Em mounted it with the operating system. Probably got some more learning to do here.
Also burned the ISO to DVD (out of blank CD's at the moment). Again, the app would crash after trying to run the disc.
The Crash Bandicoot ISO was tested on ePSXe on the PC and it worked fine (always cool to see an emulator that works!)
Will try burning the ISO to a CD and report back.
notes
- requires OSX 10.2 or greater
- requires SCPH1000 bios (Google will help you locate it)
- BIOS goes to /Library/Application Support/Pcsx/Bios/
- only supports CD's but you may be able to get it to work with disk mounting software

some guy wrote on August 23, 2009 Here's the link the download is from, if you want to read before downloading. It is NOT 1.5Test3, like all the other 1.6 download sites out there. It is 1.6B. Not sure it I'm going to stick with it, due to it not being able to recall saves under 1.5 and the control stick thing, but it does seem snappier. SprongheelMac wrote on August 23, 2009 There's a newer version os PCSX then 1.5Test3. 1.6 is out, but it won't use any of the game saves from Test3. I noticed it takes less configuring. I had to mess with 1.5Test3 to get rid of lag in cutscenes and stuff, but not with this. It recognizes my Xbox 360 controller, but not the game sticks, just the d pad. Test3 recognized the sticks. So, there's pros and cons. All in all I like it. Oh, and I forgot where I got it. Just Google it. |
